Trending Haircuts for Summer
As we head towards Summer, it's not only your wardrobe that needs an update, it’s time to take a look at that all-important haircut. Deciding on which haircut to go for is not a decision you want to mess up and there definitely is no one-style-fits-all option. Just like your clothes, your hair symbolizes your personality and individuality. It says a lot about who you are and a great hairstyle leaves you feeling ready to take on the world. And let’s be honest, it also takes your look to a whole new level.
What’s on the way out?
According to celebrity hairstylist Paul Labrecque, "Current hairstyles are embracing natural and classic natural curls. Fades and man buns are on their way out; tidy, 80’s style haircuts will be popular." So say goodbye to those overly shaved sides and to be honest, I think we’ve had enough of man buns to last for quite a while.
Another trend that appears to have finally lost its lustre, is the “just out of bed look” – and we are breathing a sigh of relief as it has never done any suit any justice. If the runways are anything to go by, we are seeing shorter cuts but they are still modern and clean and most importantly, edgy!
Summer trends – the return of some of our old favorites
So let's get down to the nitty-gritty, here are the 2022 Summer hairstyle trends for the man about town and some of them may surprise you as we have a couple of our old favorites making a comeback.
The Pompadour
Think David Beckham, it's been one of his go-to styles forever. It’s a classic, traditionally the sides are short combined with plenty of hair on top. And for those of you who didn’t know, the large volume of hair is referred to as “the pomp”. It's versatile and fashionable and can be cut to suit your individual style with a range of fades and various lengths on top. And on the upside, it’s not only for straight hair but looks great with curly and wavy hair as well.
The Buzz-cut
Although Paul Labrecque, said fades are on their way out, he was referring to those exaggerated fades – the buzz cut is still right up there amongst the best. This is one of those cuts that will emphasize your strong features and you can take it to the next level by pairing it with a line-up. Don’t be afraid to experiment with angles and lines - be it on the hairline, parting, or temples. Just think Usher who can usually be found rocking a buzz cut with a shape-up – need we say more?
The undercut
And finally, there is the undercut. Somehow they manage to look sleek even when they're messy. Believe it or not, there is even a complete guide to 70 stylish undercut hairstyle variations you can copy in 2022 – so to say it's probably the most trending men’s haircut right now, maybe an understatement.
It is a short to medium length style with the hair left longer on the top, while the sides and back are generally buzzed short. The advantage of the undercut is that it is flexible in terms of length, there are no set rules when it comes to the cut, besides the fact that it isn’t meant to be sharp or angular but rather a seamlessly blended style. And if you need a visual, think Brad Pitt, he has turned the undercut into a personal statement.
And for those of you with just a few strands, no comb-overs allowed and if you’re tempted just think Trump – there are plenty of men who rock bald, Samuel L Jackson jumps to mind as does The Rock and Jason Statham!!
